:: shopper's guide to green building in vermont

The Shopper's Guide to Green Building in Vermont, which is currently under development, provides introductory information about general categories of green building products and services. It is intended help people to make their own environmental decisions and “due diligence” evaluations. VGBN wanted to provide this Shoppers Guide, in conjunction with the VGBN Green Pages, to serve as an additional source of information for what shoppers might look for in selecting building products and services. There are various approaches and factors to consider when trying to build greener. VGBN does not set environmental criteria for listings in the VGBN Green Pages which provides potential environmental benefit information. This Shoppers Guide is intended to assist in helping people set their own criteria to make their own decisions when seeking green building products and services.

It is also the intent of this Shopper guide to provide information about various aspects that may be unique or important to green building in Vermont. Considerations such as using local materials or the climatic conditions which affect building here should be a focus.

The Shopper's Guide is currently under development. We are asking our members and partnership organizations to submit information which shoppers in our state might find helpful in selecting green products and services. For instance if you are a builder, designer, or subcontractor, what would your suggestions be for selecting such services in Vermont and what would you look for when doing so.

Please send your suggestions to our Shopper’s Guide Editor,
Carolyn Grodinsky

We would like to post credits and links to organizations which contribute to this guide.

While this site is under development, similar information, but for Colorado, not Vermont, is available on the very good Sustainable Design Resource Guide published by the Denver Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Several of the links in the shoppers guide provide direct links to this excellent resource.
